What we have here is probably a snare drum from one of Pearls finest moments! This is a Custom Z Series sometimes referred to as the CZX or CZX Custom finished in stunning Champagne Birdseye (a finish exclusively and only ever available on this very series) These drums were produced between 1989 and 1994. At the time Custom Z represented the finest build quality Pearl had ever realised and was fully designed and built in the Pearl Japan facility. Whilst the Custom Z has a similar appearance and many similar hardware cues as seen in the MLX and BLX ranges, make no mistake this was fully produced and built in Japan. The Shell is 100% Maple and is an 8 ply, 10mm thick construction, Pearls research at the time indicated this shell density allowed for a wide mid range and clean high end attack,

The Shell is 100% Maple and is an 8 ply, 10mm thick construction, Pearls research at the time indicated this shell density allowed for a wide mid range and clean high end attack, perfect for the higher tuning registers of Snare Drums. A highly figured Birdseye Maple exterior and a beautiful hand stained Champagne Lacquer complete the look and we love the Hi-Tension lugs and the stunning CZX Custom badge.

This particular snare drum came in with several failing lugs and very pitted die cast hoops. The shell on the drum is immaculate and based off serial numbers we believe this to be one of the very last CZX snares made circa '93 / '94. We decided to give the drum a complete renovation fitting it with Pearl CL65 lugs complete with brass inserts which will ensure incredible performance and durability for many years to come, we have also fitted a brand new set of Die Cast hoops giving the snare a completely brand new appearance.
